Since Thanksgiving is this month and Christmas this coming month,

These organizations have a lot to offer and I think that as a
community we should help support them as they do in our time of
need.

A special thanks to all of our Facebook friends for their support and
for helping with our quest for a good list of non-profits in our area.

One Pretty Minute PDF Print E-mail

Unlike many of the other Columbus rock bands inspired by its sound and style, One Pretty Minute actually boasts a direct link to the rock acts of the '80s which helped placed this music style in the mainstream as a seed for today's sound.

OPM's whip-lash hard-rock is infused with a little filth and fury, malevolent solos, melodic power chords and grinding cadences built on a muscular, aggressive rhythm section.

The songs are an alarming, compelling, oddly beautiful look at depravity, addiction and desperate stabs at love. Unlike much of the rock being peddled, there's nothing safe in OPM's vision that is shared with their audience.

One Pretty Minute is one of those bands that within the first few moments of listening to them, you want to start to jump around or at the very least start bobbing your head. The first song I heard of theirs was ‘Tornado’, back a few months ago at the  George Ulrich Tribute concert they played at. When listening to  the song and most of this bands lyrics, you are able to make a  pretty good connection to the message they are trying to send. After their set, I approached them and told them I appreciated their performance and gave them my card. About two weeks later, I show up at another local concert and as soon as I walk in,  there’s Bill slamming the bass to ‘Killswitch’ and a head nod to acknowledge my presence. It‘s a good feeling to see local bands connect with their fans like they do.

After forming in Fall 2008, The Dirty Flaggs have ambitiously taken on the Columbus music scene, quickly gathering a strong and devoted local fan base. With a "leave your ego at the door" policy, The Dirty Flaggs embrace their music and fans with passion. Whether playing small coffee shops or major Columbus venues, stripped down acoustic sets or full blow rock shows, they have shown they give 100% each and every time.

Finding uniqueness and a wealth of talent in front man and guitarist Andrew Murray (from Durban, South Africa), The Dirty Flaggs' ability to always evolve, work on new music, new sounds, and grow as a band, promises to prove they are an up and coming band who's not afraid to push the boundaries of their alternative pop rock genre.

So you’ve had a long day at work, and enjoy  listening to heavy rock? Shadow Prophets will easily rock your socks off. With the bands strong sound and stage presence, lead singer Jaime Price’s vocals are simply just the icing on the cake. This is one band whose bark is worse than their bite and are some of the nicest people you will meet. Just be sure you don’t mosh too closely to the stage as they might try to blow your ear drums. I can promise you that this is one band that will definitely impress you. You can find them many nights rocking the doors off of the Billiard Club on 161 but this band isn’t afraid to tour C-bus either.

Slaves of Shiva PDF Print E-mail

The Slaves of Shiva are one of those bands that make you want to just start getting rowdy when you listen to their music. When I go to a concert, I’m typically laid back and just take in the music. At a Slaves of Shiva concert I’m quite the opposite. This band doesn’t just play their set - they play the crowd. Everything is in sync with this band from the drums to the guitars to vocalist Mike Neider. This is a one heavy hitting band who will make you get up on your feet. Formed in 2007 and pushing through until June of this year, they have currently been halted due to the early and tragic death of bass player George Ulrich. They have since found a worthy bass player and you can still find Slaves of Shiva playing around
town, mostly at the Billiard Club on 161.
