In previous articles, horses have been presented as—for lack of a better term—‘enhanced pets’: beasts of burden bred for riding, racing, showmanship, jumping, etc. However, a few miles north of the outer belt there is a small group of horses that will never prance in a ring, wear the finest tack money can buy, or be straddled by $300 boots. But they will always be blue ribbon winners where it matters most.

The story begins with Heather Burdette, a rising star in many respects. She was the CFO of a state agency and in charge of a 15-billion-dollar budget. On her wall was a picture of her, in show-riding garb, atop a horse posing in mid-stride. Then fate stepped in.

The popular short north bistro teamed up with the Heyman Talent Agency and the Undone Lingerie and Shoe Boutique for the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign.

About 20 special Bustenhalters were created for the occasion. Local artists and celebrities were given a ‘plain white wrapper’ (double-barrel) to decorate with themes celebrating breast cancer survivors, encouraging mammograms, and “just generally have fun with breasts,” according to organizers. Models from the Heyman Agency cruised around a makeshift runway-track in SR’s front wing, sporting these masterpieces. (One can only speculate as to the reactions of John Q., passing by the front window at the appropriate time.)

In keeping with the spirit of the night, Sushi Rock donated a portion of the profits from their special drinks, the Tata-tini and Bra Bomb, to the cause.
